Customer Reviews
I actually rented this game to see how it played. Glad I did as I won't be buying.
The good is that the pitching style is really involved, making you make certain stick movements rather than the old 'swing meter' that is so boring. The announcers are great, though the timing of the remarks is off somewhat.
The 'ok' is the batting, it's actually kinda fun if a bit simplistic. Fielding is ok as well, with the new throwing meter adding a bit. Baserunning has always been my nemesis, so I can't realistically comment on that. The mode where you match your favorite team day by day is unique, but seems a bit gimmicky because you will have to keep buying it year to year (you can't just play a season in that mode).
Ok, now the bad... there are a number of video/audio glitches that are inexcusable in this day and age (and at this price). The 'my player' mode is very weak. Load times are long at times, video doesn't play smoothly and player animations are jerky at times.
All in all, not a bad game, just not a really good one.
I used to like the 2K series a lot. My friend was a big 2K fan, and I was a fan of Sony's MLB games. The last MLB 2K game I actually enjoyed was MLB 2K5 which was sponsored by ESPN. That game was awesome. At that time I also had MLB 2006 which actually took place in the 2005 MLB season. The following year Sony changed the title to MLB 06: The Show. Finally naming the game in which the year it was actually taking place, lol. When I played MLB 2K6 I was disgusted. Not only were the batting and pitching mechanics entirely changed, they also did something that made me sick to my stomach. While Sony released MLB 06: The Show, taking place in the 2006 MLB season the St. Louis Cardinals played their first season in the new Busch Stadium and it was IN the game. In MLB 2K6 not only were the Cardinals STILL playing at the old Busch Stadium, it wasn't even called Busch Stadium. It was called Cardinals Field. What a joke... Every year since then, the series has been a joke to me. I've played it every year, and every year it stays the same. Things change here and there. But it is always very difficult to get used to, and it is always very glitchy...
I hope after this season is over 2K decides to cut their losses and stop making baseball games...
